Hello, I’m Julia.
And I’m James.
And our collective heads are smarter than either of our individual ones.
We’ve been married for 11 years, together for 15, and are the parents of two gorgeous girls (8 and 10), two jolly Chocolate Labradors (3 and 3), and one very handsome cat (~2).
In the midst of the madness that was 2020, Julia finally found the time and energy to start blogging. This first resulted in a series of posts published on Medium, then a whole host of guest appearances on different blogs, and finally the birth of this tiny slice of the internet you have now stumbled across.
In early 2021, she finally managed to convince James to join her, and together they created Two Heads are Smarter Than One. Envisioned as a hub for all things family, parenting, entrepreneurship and productivity, it is also meant to help them embrace a joint hobby for the first time in their relationship, and offer an outlet for their interests.
Who knows, it might really turn into something. Otherwise, it might just be a fun thing to do on a Sunday morning.
Get to know more about Julia (as described by James)
Jules is an entrepreneur. She’ll hate me for saying this, but she’s the ultimate girl-boss. She’s a runner and a serial collector of books, shoes and makeup. She’s also a decent-enough cook, a very bad driver, and the most creative person I have ever met.
Before we started dating, she used to scare the crap out of me by having a ferocious opinion on everything. That is in no way saying she is opinionated or stubborn. She’s a great listener, and makes a very mean margarita.
She is the writer in this relationship – and has probably edited everything I’ve just said. (no, I honestly haven’t, scout’s honor) She’s driven and compassionate, kind and cut-throat honest, and I have yet to meet an animal that doesn’t instantly fall in love with her.
Get to know James (as seen by Julia)
The best way to describe James is, unfortunately, by using his official title: project manager. If you wanted to get to know him in a pinch, those two words would tell you everything you needed to know.
He can solve practically any problem you throw at him, from parking in the tiniest spots available, to teaching dogs insanely complex tricks, telling the most amazing bedtime stories, all the while somehow also managing to master every dish ever invented in a single try.
He is organized, he is reliable, and he is kind. He can baffle you with the most random fact about the most random topic in the middle of the night. He never forgets a date, a phone number or an anecdote, and is without a doubt the smarter of our two heads.
Comparing him to a rock wouldn’t at all be the gracious thing to do – but he’s where I’ve built my church, and hardly a day goes by when I don’t start my list of things to be grateful for with a simple but telling J.
